The Christmas market
Stalls take over Grey Street, Grainger Street and Nelson Street, with a Christmas Village and Ferris wheel at Old Eldon Square. Exact dates and hours are published each year.

The Hoppings on the Town Moor
The Hoppings funfair has come to the Town Moor since 1882, and in 2026 it ran from 19 to 28 June. Entry is free and you pay per ride, which makes it a playful, easy evening out.

The Great North Run
The half marathon starts in Newcastle, runs through Gateshead and finishes in South Shields, and thousands come out to cheer. The 2026 run was on Sunday 13 September, so watch for next year's date.
