Dating safely

Most people you meet are exactly who they say. These habits protect you from the few who aren’t.

Report romance fraud

If someone you met online asks for money, crypto or gift cards, stop and report it to Report Fraud through its online reporting service or on 0300 123 2040. If you have already sent money, contact your bank straight away. In an emergency, call 999.

Know the warning signs

Be careful if things move very fast or feel very intense early on, or if someone keeps avoiding meeting in person or a live video call. Never send money to someone you have not met face to face, and talk to a friend if something feels off.

Help on a night out in town

At peak times and during events, a Safe Haven Van parks in the Bigg Market for anyone who feels unwell, loses their friends or needs help getting home. Northumbria Police also run extra patrols and CCTV in the city centre all year round.
